π π» Santa, Tell Me, What Do Employees Want?
All they want for Christmas is work-life balance and good pay
During the holiday season, employee reviews place extra focus on their work-life balance, emphasizing the need for family time and less overtime.
In 2023, tech companies such as Dropbox and VMWare topped the list of companies with the best work-life balance, while retail and delivery companies such as Dollar General and USPS were found at the bottom of the list.
The holiday season is here, but are employees feeling the holiday spirit? Employee sentiment around the holidays can be complicated, with all aspects of employee satisfaction coming to a head at this time of year: End-of-year bonuses elicit considerations about compensation, promotions prompt discussions about career opportunities, vacations provoke contemplation about work-life balance, and holiday parties illuminate company culture and values. This week, we use Revelio Labsβ workforce insights to highlight the most important topics discussed by employees during the holiday season.
Using employee sentiment data, we track the keywords that are overrepresented in reviews posted during the holiday season. Naturally, the opportunity to spend time with family is of increased importance to employees during the holidays. Mentions of family, vacation, holiday, and time are all up more than 3% during the final weeks of the year, as our workforce insights illustrate below. While the importance of work-life balance during the holiday season is apparent from the employee sentiment data, some companies prioritized work-life balance more than others in 2023. Tech companies such as Dropbox, VMware, and Intuit were among the top rated companies for work-life balance in 2023. On the other hand, retail and delivery companies such as Mattress Firm, Dollar General, and USPS were amongst the lowest rated companies for work-life balance this past year. Given that tech companies have more flexible vacation policies and higher compensation than retail and delivery companies which face the busiest time of year during the holiday gifting season, it is unsurprising that the sentiment discrepancies between these two groups increase during the holiday season.
Whether you work at one of the naughtiest or nicest companies, or somewhere in between, Revelio Labs wishes you a happy and healthy holiday season!
